Dr. Edward O. Wilson, SavingSpecies Science Board Member, Professor Emeritus and Honorary Curator in Entomology, Harvard University
Nelson Mandela once said that “education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.” We could not agree more. Only by providing all young people with core scientific knowledge about the interconnectedness of all life on earth, can humanity reverse the extinction crisis, stave off global warming, or restore polluted waters and degraded lands.
And as of today, there is a powerful new tool—a state of the art biology textbook—written by SavingsSpecies’ Science Board member Dr. E.O. Wilson. Titled Life on Earth, it uses compelling graphics, animation, and other digital media to convey biology and ecology in ways that young people are more likely to retain and even engage.
The book is being distributed for free by the E.O. Wilson Foundation, ensuring that students across the socio-economic spectrum have access to the book’s technology and science.
So we congratulate Dr. Wilson, and applaud him for his generous gift to science and to environmental education. Just like E.O. Wilson’s conservation work with SavingSpecies, we look forward to it bearing fruit for generations to come!
